I know a lot of people shell out a lot of money to keep viruses and spyware out of their computers, but what do you do if you don't have the money for these?

I originally used a program from Computer Associates which they made available free to home users. When the product was bought by another firm, and I would have had to pay to continue, I went looking for alternatives.

After much research I have downloaded the following products:

AVG - www.grisoft.com - Choice Australia and Personal Computer magazines rated this program up with Norton and other AV programs you have to pay for. In fact for detecting and eliminating trojans AVG rated better than Norton. They are unbelievably quick in loading new virus signatures and if you need a firewall, you can purchase one.

AdAware - produced by a Swedish company, this program finds many spyware programs (spyware can capture your details and slow your computer down majorly). It doesn't remove them but does give you a list so you can do this manually. It always finds the tracking cookies used on the easycash games site.

Spybot - has found one or two spyware programs earlier than AdAware.

Spyware Doctor has a trial version you can download and although it won't delete anything it finds, you can do this manually.
